My 3 year old refuses to potty train.

Question: My son is almost 3 1/2 and still refuses to potty train. I have tried everything. He know when he goes but doesn't get to the potty on time. He has only peed in the potty once since January. I put underwear on him, I have used pull ups, treats, taken him to the potty every 1-2 hours. I even took a 2-3 month break to see if it was maturity. He goes pee about every 2 hrs in the morning and every 3-4 hours in the afternoon. He does still wake up in the morning wet.

Please help.

Bren

Dear Bren:

This is not what you want to hear. Boys often take longer than girls to train. Throw out the timeline and whatever expectations you had for him being potty trained. Let go and let him do what he needs to when he needs to and I promise he will not go to kindergarten when he is five in diapers.

Sincerely,

M Kay Keller
