Comment:  thanks for your help; sometimes hearing someone elses opinion really makes me feel more confident raising my child.

Question:
I am a mother of a 14 yr. old girl who is very defiant. I took her cellphone away lastnight because she was on it 10 minutes after her phone privileges. I told her she would lose it for one day. After that was said my husband found some messages from her boyfriend that were very disturbing (sexual content). Now i will say i am horrible at making decisions so what do i do to correct this problem and how should i go about discipling her. Thank you, Katrina

Dear Katina:

I don't know why you are doubting yourself because your daughter is making mistakes. She is her own person and she will make mistakes. She was on the phone too long and you took the phone for a day. Sounds good to me.

As for the boyfriend she needs to know his behavior is inappropriate. While you can't hold her responsible for his behavior you certainly can let her know his behavior is inappropriate for a 14 year old girl.

Best Wishes!
