Dear Kay,
I have a 14 month old toddler and she
seems to do nothing but sleep. She'll go to bed at 8:30, sleep through
the night, not wake up until 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning, and then go
back down at 1:00 for a nap that will last until 5:00 or 6:00 (sometimes
later). She's never had trouble as an infant with sleeping and waking
but as she gets older she sleeps more than what all the guidelines
suggest is normal. She is rather large for her age (she weighs 29lbs.
and is almost two feet tall) but is there anything I should be worried
about with her only being awake for 5 or 6 hours a day?
Robyn
Dear Robyn:
Although each child is
different and what is normal is defined on a total population of
children at the same ages, anytime a parent is worried, I suggest they
consult with their Doctor.
Please do call your doctor and go from there as this is more of a physical issue.
M Kay Keller
