  1. Research (Strengthening Couples Relationships for Optimal Child Development) tells that 90% of fathers are involved with the mother at the time of the baby's birth, this falls to less than 50% by the time the child is 4 or 5 years of age. In the last 100 years we have studied mother rats, monkeys and humans and neglected to provide a supportive framework for fathering...then we wonder why? Research now shows that fathers can, will and do step up to the plate when afforded the opportunity to do so. They of course are much more active and hands on with their children. Infant massage provides many benefits to the infant as research has already documented (Keller, Critical Review, 2010). Yet in the last 25 years of infant massage research there have only been two which focused on fathers massaging their infants. The results? Fathers spent more quality time with their babies AND babies initiated engagement with the fathers. Thus indicating they can and do actively participate in getting their needs met. This study will explore the experiences of fathers who massage their infants thus providing additional insight into father's and their perceptions of their infants. Very exciting to be provided this opportunity. It is only a three week commitment and when the study is over the entire family can learn to massage the baby, (mother, siblings, grandparents, etc). This class is a $125 value for parents FREE! (I know that all sound really boring....they train fun writing right out of us in research classes....really cools stuff though!)
