I am reading the book, "Half the Sky." It has shocked me and amazed me. We women are nurtureres from the heart. If you haven't read it pick it up, your life will change. I wasn't through the first chapter before I realized that my worst day on this earth was a day to give thanks. I am really pondering how to use my abundance to be the change I want to see in the world. I am reviewing Kiva.org, Women for Women International and Charity Navigator.
I have already begun supporting Kiva.org and support only women run business that do not focus on serving alcohol. The reason being that liquor licenses tend to be given out in poorer areas of town and do more to contribute to poverty.
Alcohol contributes more to the social ills in our own society than illict drug use (80%/20%). I currently contribute to www.nospank.net to promote non-violence against children...now after reading Half the Sky I have realized it is a global issue this violence against women and children. Men too suffer from this idealized paternalistic structure. They are cheated of the love and self respect that comes from respecting those they percieve to be less powerful.
What I have learned so far from this book is that when I help another woman take care of her family, she takes care of her family and extends this to the community. I want to be the change in the world that I want to see and I know it begins with me with what little I can give. May it be blessed and multiplied like the loaves of fishes on the seashore!
Develop your dreams and you create passion...
Develop the dreams of others and you create Heaven.
Becoming the change I want to see in the world.
